Let us be clear: TikTok is not merely an entertainment platform. It is a data collection operation embedded in millions of American devices.

NOT ON MY DEVICES

25 years ago I read that surveillance and data gathering were coming and it would be sold to our young people as "new exciting features" on their handheld devices, whether that was an iPod at the time, or our smart phones now, or whatever device is in our future. I cautioned my children and kept myself up to date on what was being put on our phones that we don't know about.

There are so many tracking settings on our phones, it is unreal. At the moment, Apple and our service provider are gathering all this data, but drumpf and our government wants all of this data. Musk wants all of this data. That is why new innovations are being created to bury the technology so that data can be gathered.

If you have a smart phone, look up how to block data gathering on your phone. There are settings that are automatically turned on when you buy it.

TikTok won't be a lasting app - something newer and better will come along and that will be sold to everyone or buried deep in so many technological features we won't know it is there. I don't have TikTok on my phone, but data is being gathered on me in all kinds of other ways, some I have yet to discover. Our data is all up for grabs these days and very few of us are not in some database somewhere gathered by someone because it was entered into that database by someone or something.

The only way to keep from being tracked, and have data gathered on you, is to go off the grid completely. Your WiFi can even tell the provider approximately where you are sitting in your house.

Indeed, when I was writing I said to myself that being on the net opens your vulnerability. I appreciate your impeccable knowledge!

What is sad about all of this is the complacency that we have all been lulled into. My not going off the grid after gaining all this knowledge is more related to the number of times I have had my data breached over the years because of of poor operational security in our government and our corporations. The first time my data was stolen, it scared me. The second time, I was anxious about it, but what could I do? After about the 6th time, it was just a matter of "Oh well, it's out there and has been for decades now, so lock up my credit and do what I can to secure my bank accounts."

Going off the grid would be peaceful, no doubt, but I would not like it, so I'll live with the fact that somebody somewhere can access everything I am doing - it will be boring, but they have access. In the mean time, I get to be enlightened, entertained, and participate. At my age, the pluses outweigh the negatives of which I have no particular control.

Same here. I suspected from the day Tik Tok became available in the the US that it was not a good idea to download it. Yet, so many people I know still did it. It's bad enough that companies like Meta are grabbing as much of my data I'd rather they not have. And, for all we know they're sharing our data with people who have no business being in our business.

There’s so much going on! I’m so thankful to be able to access reliable reporting. Thank you, Popok (and all MTN affiliates) for breaking it down and keeping it real.

I wish we would all stop using that app. No American is going to buy it because it operates world-wide. It has become very pro Trump and the racism against my people is rampant and unacceptable. I spend more time on this app and Youtube. I refuse to install X.

Never had TikTok and never will! Why is DT not following what Congress and the Supreme Court have mandated? Why, because DT wants to be the sole heir to any monies he can absorb from an entity-whether it be foreign or domestic!

And he wants to keep 150 million U.S. TikTok users happy so they will vote for "R's."

The partial ownership is only a pipe dream at this point because ByteDance won't sell it or sell off the U.S. portion of it. So, he's just holding out for an opportunity to get a "golden share" or to get actual money from it.

I doubt that Trump has a hold on what AI is - rather like the head of Education in his administration, who calls it "A one". As I write this, Trump is on the TV giving a live, rambling press conference, after the NATO meeting in the Hague. He is being much less than civil and respectful to those asking questions. Not a very good advertisement for your country.

Thanks for “looking out” Popok! I’m going to hang around here because I know I’ll need some clarity on the China rshp. You know, being informed (me) and trusting the informer (you) lol - Seriously makes these foreign and domestic rshps and events quite a bit less anxious. Thanks. Appreciate it a bunch. 🇫🇯🇨🇼🇩🇯🇨🇰🇨🇳🇪🇬🇨🇨🇮🇴🇪🇪🇪🇬🇸🇻🇩🇯🇸🇳🇺🇸

I don't have TikTok on my devices but I see posts from TikTok on Instagram users posts. I wonder if when I am on Instagram and I should happen to click on a TikTok video embedded in an Instagram post could my information be traced back to me. I am assuming it probably could. What do others think?

Do you think he did it to convince Musk to buy it? I don't believe for a moment they have cut off their communications.
