Look. I read the Declaration of Independence a few weeks ago, and it struck me that Vought could well have used the Framers’ grievances as the blueprint for P25. “Everything they accused the British King of doing we will do.”

Vought has definitely used the legal history in his framework. Another example (imo) would be the use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. He and Steven Miller make use of history in their dystopian fantasy to create (their) future.

Atrocity

Please consider:

• When Cormac McCarthy wrote his masterpiece Blood Meridian in 1985, he was using history to remind us of, and define the fundamental American psyche

• Anyone who has read this book will understand what I mean

• A truly awful recounting of the butchering of Native Americans

• Read it and be informed about the extent and nature of violence in a society

• Of the depths of evil and the true nature of evil people in a society

• American literary giant Harold Bloom compared Blood Meridian to Moby Dick

• Writing at the peak of American literary accomplishment

• Am I generalizing? Maybe, but I would argue that many Americans would agree with me

• This leads me to an atrocity committed by the Supreme Court of the United States.

• Yes, you read that right.

• With a seven to two majority the court has authorized the transfer of eight people to South Sudan from interim US detention in Djibouti

• I have had the misfortune of having spent one day in South Sudan.

• It is a country that is totally foreign to Westerners and not in a good touristy way

• It is war ravaged, politically cataclysmic, massively underdeveloped, profoundly violent, unbelievably poor, lawless.

• Nothing that your average American would even recognize, let alone be able to tolerate

• As regards the legal status of the eight this is irrelevant in the light of the USAs sophisticated crime and punishment structures

• Any assurances given to the Trump Administration by South Sudan can be safely ignored

• My understanding is that the Supreme Court has now effectively cleared the path for further transfers to South Sudan (and other hell holes) and therein lies the atrocity

I missed this book in 1985. I was too engaged with 3 young children! However I have been studying and reading about The Doctrine of Discovery which painted violent settler colonialism with a patina of religious legitimacy. I'll seek out the McCarthy book. P25 honchoed by vought ( pronounced VOTE which he does not want many people able to do) is a white supremacist roman catholic. Wonder if Pope Leo knows that? P25 is the latest and most egregious blueprint for a government of white christian supremacists. Heritage has been producing these blueprints for decades for gop led governments. Sadly there are dems who drank some of the kool-aid, not enough to kill, but enough to stunt their capacity to think critically. Sigh....

Blood Meridian is worth the read but brace yourself for the awfulness of it.

I do not think that todays politicians are up to the task of governing effectively and herein lies a problem for all of us

Unfortunately, Neither John Roberts nor most of the other members of the Supreme Court are subject or won't subject themselves to the responses of the majority of Americans to the way they are perverting the Constitution and the rule of law in our country. They have set themselves as superior to the rest of society. I'm of the view that they are cowards and that most of them have to many of their own skeletons. They refuse to be held accountable for their own deeds!

Dear Judge Michael Luttig what a great explanation of the Trump era. Every USA household should take his closing recommendation and, as a family/ group, wherever you are today, July 4th, read aloud the Declaration of Independence. This video should be broadcast widely. With love from a Brit , in Europe, weeping and worrying about the current situation.

This is definitely worth a watch. (Though if you’re reading comments you probably have already.) In fact I watched it twice. Judge Luttig makes me feel safe. In a time when so many of us feel alone, not knowing what we can do, it’s good to know that there are people with a voice greater than ours in the arena. Somehow I think Roberts listens to him. SCOTUS will play a direct role in the outcome of this fiasco.

Trump is not clever enough or conscious enough to create the cruel strategy that is unfolding.

There are key players behind him that are the authors of project 2025 who have set up the circumstances and executive orders that Trump is stumbling along and clumsy executing. Name those people’s names. Make those people clear and call them out ! It’s not just Steven Miller or Pam Bondi there are more criminals who are pushing the agenda. RESIST THE CRIMINAL FASCIST !

Regarding Chief Justice Roberts, I understand what he's done to destroy the separation of powers between the 3 branches, I understand he wants to advance a unitary executive branch etc. However, as Judge Luttig states, if Roberts is aware of the outcomes we are witnessing, why? Why is Roberts doing this? Surely he can see what kind of man trump is, he must understand how all of this violates the Constitution, I just want to understand why.
